Windows Me Connect

Before you begin, make sure you have your Windows Me CD-ROM available and ready for installation.

Setup Windows Networking

Add a Dial-up Adapter

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
  2. Click the Network icon.
  3. Select the Configuration tab.
  4. Click the Add button.
  5. Select Adapter.
  6. Click the Add button.
  7. From the Manufacturers list choose Microsoft.
  8. From the Network Adapters list choose Dial-up Adapter.
  9. Click the OK button.

Add TCP/IP

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. Select Protocol.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. From the Manufacturers list select Microsoft.
  5. From the Network Protocol list select TCP/IP.
  6. Click the OK button.

Add Client for Microsoft Networks

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. Select Client.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. From the Manufacturers list select Microsoft.
  5. From the Network Clients list select Client for Microsoft Networks.
  6. Click the OK button.

You should now only have three things listed: Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, Dial-up Adapter.  If you see anything else listed, and you don't know what it is, click on it and then click the Remove button.  Or if your are on a network, ask your network administrator what components are necessary.

Configure TCP/IP

  1. Choose the Configuration tab.
  2. Under "The following network components are installed:" selection window, choose TCP/IP.
  3. Click the Properties button.
  4. Choose the IP Address tab.
  5. Select the Obtain an IP address automatically button.
  6. Choose the DNS Configuration tab.
  7. Select Disable DNS.
  8. Choose the WINS Configuration tab.
  9. Select Disable WINS Resolution.
  10. Choose the Gateway tab.
  11. Clear the Installed Gateways text box.
  12. Click the OK button.

Once everything is correct click OK. When asked to restart your computer click the Yes button and wait for your computer to restart.
 

Install Dial-Up Networking

  1. Double-click My Computer on your desktop.
  2. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Click the Windows Setup tab.
  5. Click the Communications component.
  6. Click the Details... button.
  7. Put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking.
  8. Click the OK button.
  9. Click the OK button again.
  10. Windows will prompt you for your installation diskettes or CD.
  11. Wait for Dial-Up Networking to install.
  12. When you are told to restart, click the OK button.
  13. Click the Start button and choose Shut Down.
  14. Select Restart the computer?
  15. Click the Yes button.
  16. Wait for Windows to restart.

This may take a few minutes.
 

Setup Dial-Up Networking

  1. Click on Start, then Settings.
  2. Click on the Dial-Up Networking selection.

     
  3. Now double click on the Make New Connection icon.

     
  4. Under "Type a name for the computer you are dialing" field, type Cari.net where you see 'my isp' in the example below.

     
  5. Click the Configure button.
  6. Check that the appropriate speed for your modem is highlighted (for 14.4 modems use 19200, for 28.8 and 33.6 modems use 38400 and for 56K modems use 57600.)
  7. Make sure that the Only connect at this speed option is not checked.
  8. Click the OK button.

     
  9. Click the Next button.
  10. In the Area code and Telephone number text boxes, type your local  access number. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.
  11. Click the Next button.

     
  12. Click the Finish button.

     
  13. Click on the icon in Dialup Networking with the right mouse button.
  14. Choose Properties.  You may also left click once on the icon and go to the File menu and select Properties.

     
  15. Click on Server Types tab (on some older versions of Windows this will be a button located to the right of the Configure button)

     
  16. For Type of Dial-Up Server, select the first item on the list.
  17. Make sure that the  TCP/IP, and Enable software compression boxes  are the only ones selected.
  18. with check marks are Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

     
  19. Select the Server assigned IP address button.
  20. Select the Specify name server addresses button.
  21. In the Primary DNS text box, type 216.98.128.70
  22. In the Secondary DNS text box, type 216.98.138.70. Make sure that there is a check beside both Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network.


     
  23. Click the OK button once to get back to the Main window.

 
  • Uncheck everything in the 2 Tabs

  • Click the OK button about 2 times to get back to the Dial-up Networking window.

  • Drag the WebCasa.net connection icon to your desktop.
  • When you see a message saying You cannot move or copy this item to this location. Do you want to create a shortcut to the item instead?, click the Yes button.

    • Now, just plug in your Username and Password:

    1) double-click on the Dialup you just created
    2) type in your username@xxxx, according to the service you're using:
    For CA & NV Service: "username"@webcasa.net
    For US 200hr: "username".webcasa.net@ibizdialup.com
    US Unlimited: "username".webcasa.net@anywhere
    3) type in your password
    4) click "Save Password" if you want the password saved, so you don't enter it every time.
    (if no one else can acces your computer that you don't want to access the Internet)
    Note:
    No symbols or characters can be used anywhere in a username.
    Usernames may contain underscores or hyphens ("_" or "-") but no periods.
    The following characters are not valid in a username:
    ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + ` - = [ ] { } \ | : ; " ' , . < > / ? * and so on.

    Your computer is now configured to connect to the Internet.

    •          To Connect, You can double-click on the Dialup here in Dialup Networking, or on your Desktop
